Victoria’s ICT Minister Opens at First Ajilon-sponsored AIIA Forum for 2008

After renewing their AIIA sponsorship for 2008, Bill Leropoulos and his team welcomed more than 200 guests and select Ajilon clients to the first Victorian Australian Information Industry Association’s (AIIA) Business Forum for the year, held on March 4 at The Melbourne Arts Centre.

Keynote speaker Theo Theophanous, Victoria’s ICT Minister, addressed the audience over lunch, elaborating on his Government’s plans to develop and support Victoria’s ICT industry.

Some of the key projects the Minister announced included a broadband upgrade for the Municipal Association of Victoria and the roll out of a Department of Education and Training Knowledge Portal in all schools.

He also talked about his commitment to address the ICT skills shortage at the tertiary level, and make it “cool” to be in IT.

Bill Leropoulos, General Manager at Ajilon, shared his views on the event outcomes.

“Just networking with guests throughout the afternoon, there was a common view that the alignment of ICT and industry under one ministerial portfolio was a positive for Victoria,” he said.

Ajilon has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with the Victorian Government.  It has a deep understanding of what’s required for industry to be able to partner effectively with government and a vested interest in sharing this experience with its clients.
“Many of the guests who attended Tuesday’s Forum were representing organisations, like Ajilon, that deliver services or solutions to a diverse customer base in the private and public sectors,” Bill said.

“Like me, they were keen to hear from the Minister on how the Victorian Government plans to support us in developing and growing our businesses and how the opportunities we’re seeing presented can be fast-tracked and maximised.”
