Lands 'SIX Portal' Up For NSW Premier's Public Sector Award

The NSW Department of Lands (Lands) Spatial Information eXchange (SIX) Portal project, which includes the innovative SIX Viewer, has been entered into this year’s New South Wales Premier’s Public Sector Awards under the category of Delivering Better Services.

The Awards, which have been running for 10 years, were established to formally recognise and reward achievements of excellence by the NSW public sector

Ajilon coordinated the development of the SIX Viewer, which is the part of the site that gives users fast and easy access to a wide range of NSW spatial datasets, including property, cadastral (land tenure) and topographic information, satellite data and aerial photography.

Created with the latest Web 2.0 and spatial (location based) technology, Land’s SIX Portal is online, collaborative working space that can be used by the government, business and community to search, access and utilise the wealth of geospatial services and data managed by Lands.

Users can also access a number of additional web services, such as live weather and bushfire feeds from the Bureau of Meteorology and Geosciences Australia

According to David Hayward, Ajilon’s National Spatial Lead, Lands has received national acclaim for its SIX Portal, which is being touted as one of the highest-profile spatial projects in Australia.

“Its certainly a very sophisticated portal and is a great demonstration of how information from State and Federal Government agencies can be integrated and exploited for use by government, business and the community.”

Ajilon was engaged to provide software evaluation, function specifications, user interface design, animated help development, solutions architecture and manage all aspects of the system build.

The cutting-edge technology powering the SIX Viewer has significantly boosted Land’s service delivery profile in the eyes of NSW Government and community and as a result, has attracted the interest of number of organisations keen to develop similar systems.

“The SIX Viewer has given us an excellent foothold into future spatial work within Australia’s public sector,” said David.

“Ajilon is already talking to a number of other potential public and private sector clients, one of whom is in the WA resources sector, who are keen to engage us to deliver similar portal projects

“From a growth perspective, this is fantastic for our business.”
