Ajilon General Manager, Bill Leropoulos, accepted his second invitation to facilitate an Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) event, at an industry analyst forum held at the Melbourne Arts Centre on April 16.
Ajilon is the key event sponsor of the AIIA’s 2008 Business Event Series in Victoria and Bill facilitated the day’s proceedings for more than 130 guests, who included Ajilon clients from ANZ, NAB, Telstra and Sensis.
The ICT Business Trends and Predictions forum is traditionally held by the AIIA in the first half of the year and this year’s key note speakers were leading ICT market analysis experts, Ian Bertram [Managing VP Gartner Research] and Dr Steve Hodgkinson [Research Director Public Policy Ovum].
Both Ian and Steve gave guests their views on the changes taking place in the consumer market, emerging technologies of influence and what businesses need to do to take advantage of emerging ICT trends.
Their key messages included the need for employers to understand and harness the power of Web 2.0 technology in their businesses, especially as a means of retaining Gen-Y workers; the need for companies to invest more in R&D, training, education and job rotation/sharing progams; and the predicted slow down in the Federal Government’s ICT contract spending, as a result of the $16 billion review being carried out by independent UK ICT expert, Sir Peter Gershon.
The Victorian State winners in the AIIA iAwards, which recognise the best and brightest in the ICT industry, were also acknowledged in a short ceremony toward the end of the forum. The national iAwards ceremony will take place on May 28.
