Last week Ajilon welcomed more than 120 guests to the fifth 2007 Event Series forum convened by the Victorian AIIA, which focused on the theme: New media – old world or new world? How technology is shaping our future.
Attendees listened to the differing views of three speakers in the publishing, real estate and search engine industries, on how new media – also referred to as ‘Web 2.0’ – is transforming the way our global community communicates and accesses information
Linda Kennedy, CIO IDG Communications (which publishes online magazines Computerworld and PC World), outlined the historical evolution of media and her prediction on what the future of media in society will look like. She pointed out to audience members the wealth of information that is available at their fingertips
There are infinite information sources - you can really drill down into as much detail as you want.”
Chris Vulovic, CIO for Real Estate.com, detailed how she is using new media, such as YouTube, to grow and manage her online business and deliver training to her employees.
And Jason Senn, Manager Enterprise Sales Asia Pacific at Google, made the penetrating statement that “search capability is the oxygen of the information age,” explaining how new media applications enabled the creation of its highly successful Google Earth portal.
Bill Leropoulos, General Manager Ajilon, said his main event take away was the distinction that media and information for the enterprise and individual is converging.
“There are all sorts of new media communication technologies rapidly emerging, like YouTube, wikis, blogs and Facebook.
“The line between traditional marketing, recreation and entertainment has become very blurred, so it’s critical for those of us in business to be aware of this.
Cleary many businesses are reaping the benefits of the new media trend and Ajilon is certainly enjoying working with a couple of large government clients in the spatial environment to help them communicate more effectively with their customer groups.”
The forum was pitched at people who sell or market technology products or services through new media, business leaders interested in exploring new ideas, marketing consultants interested in challenging the status quo and technology specialists exploring the new media space.
The next Ajilon-sponsored event is a special one-day, ‘ICT Going Green’ conference, which will be held on Thursday 18th October. It will focus on how technology can support businesses to become sustainable and the opportunities this offers the ICT industry as a whole. Visit the AIIA’s site for more information.
