Ajilon General Manager, Bill Leropoulos, was invited to facilitate proceedings in front of a record number of guests yesterday, at the AIIA’s last Business Series forum for 2007.
More than 220 guests, who included Ajilon clients from Telstra, SAP and Sensis, met at The Melbourne Arts Centre to listen to three ICT business experts present on the themes of IT governance and the growing global skills shortage.
Wayne Saunders, CIO at Australia Post, highlighted his organisation’s focus on IT Transition and the need to “chart the new course and keep the doors open.”
Relating the strong value Australia Post places on its customers, quality, delivery, accountability and people, Wayne said he believes that IT is now a trusted advisor in many businesses today.
Shelley Oldham, the Director of Strategy for the Government Services Group within the Department of Treasury and Finance, presented after Wayne and outlined the Victorian Government’s roadmap.
She talked through their whole-of government approach to shared services, identifying the core competencies of governance, change management and program/project management critical for success.
One of the key points Shelly made was that Project Management should be a capability that is "farmed,” rather than "hunted.”
John Porter, the Director of Business Information Services at LeasePlan, was the last speaker for the day.
He gave the audience his views on the challenges IT departments face when delivering in a global business environment and how the ability to scale becomes a critical success factor.
John went on to give the details around LeasePlan’s participation in a global pilot for Business Transformation – which is based on a SAP Solution – and how their national parent company selected their Australian operation to undertake this high-profile challenge.
Ajilon has been the sponsor of the AIIA’s Victorian Business Event Series throughout 2007 and is currently negotiating its partnership with the ICT representative body for 2008.
