Senator Conroy Divulges NBN Plans at Ajilon-sponsored AIIA event
Friday, 14 August 2009 17:21

Senator Stephen Conroy and a panel of representatives from the health and utilities sectors spoke on the theme, How the NBN will Fuel Australia’s Smart Economy, attracting a bumper crowd to the AIIA event July 9, including Ajilon clients from Cuscal, Telstra and Macquarie Bank.

In the first of three AIIA events Ajilon is sponsoring this year in New South Wales, Ajilon’s NSW General Manager, Geoff Howard, welcomed more than 250 guests to the Association’s special ministerial briefing, held at the Parliament of NSW in Sydney’s CBD.

With the Federal Government committed to open access to the NBN, the barrier of entry for many ICT organisations will be lowered, allowing a multitude of value-added services to be delivered directly to end-users. The increased availability of e-Health, Smart Energy and e-Commerce applications are among the opportunities unfolding.

Geoff shared his main take away from the speakers’ presentations.

“Led by the Minister, but central to the discussions of all the speakers, was that the focus is not upon the infrastructure for delivery, but the services and the change in those services and businesses as the NBN comes on stream. The simplest example is TV broadcasting, where the concept of the NBN delivering any show at any time is going to significantly erode the free to air market.”

Craig Gibbons of NRMA Motoring Services was the lucky winner of the new iPhone 3GS.  The giveaway formed part of a competition Geoff and his team ran on the day to promote Ajilon’s Systems Integration service offering.

The next Ajilon-sponsored AIIA event in NSW is on August 28.  For the full details, visit the AIIA’s website.
