Ajilon fires up for Ignite

Ajilon was once again the principal sponsor of Ignite Sydney, held July 15 in an underground music club on Oxford Street in the city’s CBD.

Ajiloner Stephen Lead first brought the Ignite concept to Australia in 2008, and has since run similar events in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

“We run these events with the aim being to showcase innovative talks which break the mould of the usual ‘death by PowerPoint’ experience,” he said.

“Presenters have only 5 minutes on stage and are permitted just 20 slides, which rotate every 15 seconds.”

Around 500 people attended the event, which comprised 12 presentations on a variety of topics, including:

  • - why having a plan can sometimes hold you back
  • - what people's Google searches say about our society
  • - how to give away books when you've finished reading them
  • - using economic theory to make movies suck less

In a comical close, the evening wrapped with an improvised performance, which was made up on-the-spot from skits based on the previous 11 presentations.

“Although the intent of the evening is primarily to entertain, there is considerable educational value in these sessions, and lessons in how to deliver an effective presentation on any topic.”
